Missing in Action
Norman Keene Smith
Ensign Norman Keene (Dopey) Smith, former Georgia-Florida League pitcher and Southwest Georgia sports figure who had played here many times, is "missing in action," his mother, Mrs. James H. Smith, of Carnegie, was notified this week. A member of the Naval Reserve, "Dopey" had acquired many friends here in baseball swings through the city.
Ensign Smith, Edison, Missing
EDISON, Sept. 17.--A message was received this week by Mrs. J. H. Smith, of Carnegie, seven miles north of Edison, stating that her son, Norman Smith, ensign in the United States Naval Reserve, had been reported missing.
Ensign Smith is the son of the late Henry Smith, who was a well known citizen and a large planter of this section, and of Mrs. Smith of Carnegie. He is 25 years of age, and a graduate of the Edison High School, of Norman Junior College, Norman Park, and of Mercer University, Macon. Before enlisting in the Naval Reserves he taught school and played professional baseball. He has four brothers: J.T. Smith, Albany; Marvin Smith and Russell Smith , Carnegie, and Agnew Smith, Camp Blanding, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Francis Bugg, Carnegie, and Mrs. George Chambers, Leary.
